  • The Association of Independent Music (AIM) has announced initial details of its Music Connected conference this year, including speakers from Warp, Cooking Vinyl and a keynote from Merlin’s Charles Caldas. Taking place on April 30th at Glaziers Hall in London, the 12th annual conference will offer an entire day of conferences and networking, covering topics from making sense of data to breaking an act for under £1000.

    A Hole Lotta Love

    As The Gen trudges through entire swamps of announcements so that you don’t have to, we prove that, for this month at least, industry conferences are the new awards ceremonies. The organisers of Music Matters have announced that Universal Music Group International Chairman and CEO Max Hole will deliver a keynote address at their event in Singapore this year.
  • The Great Escape has announced details of a new convention strand focusing on Global Digital Markets, also adding over 150 artists to the live line-up, including Dome shows from Wild Beasts and These New Puritans.
  • Generator returned to Roundhouse Rising for our Artist Development Masterclass Day and Tipping Point Showcase. Guests included Jazz Summers (Big Life Managent) and representatives of Radio 1, Spotify, Sentric Music, Amazing Radio, Island Records, ITB Agency and PRS for Music Foundation, with Blessa, Sophie Jamieson, Prides and Fé rounding out the night with stunning performances for The Tipping Point.

    Roundhouse Rising Up

    Roundhouse Rising returns from Thursday 20th - Sunday 23rd February and will feature over 100 emerging artists and a range of industry sessions and workshops over four days. As reported, an artist development day organised by Generator will feature Jazz Summers of Big Life, BBC Introducing’s Ally McCrae and Jen Long, Emma Hogan from ITB Agency and Bryan Johnson from Spotify amongst others.

    Bragg on Spotify

    Billy Bragg is confirmed to speak about streaming at MusicTank’s first think tank event of 2014. Taking place on 7th April at the University of Westminster, the session will focus on the economics behind the streaming model, in particular payments to artists.
  • The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), is staging a Marketing and Promotion seminar in London next month. A series of workshops and presentations will feature speakers from Bestival / Get Involved, YouTube, Kendal Calling, PRS for Music Foundation, Storm Crowd and Leefest at the event on February 18th at the Minster Exchange venue from 9.30am—5.30pm.
  • After announcing Thurston Moore and John Cale as guest speakers, the organisers of Liverpool Sound City 2014 have announced their first wave of acts including Jungle and Clean Bandit. Taking place from May 1st-3rd in 25 venues across the City, the 7th annual Sound City will also feature Kodaline, F**k Buttons and Gruff Rhys.

    Head in the Cloud

    Following a reported $60 million investment, SoundCloud is apparently courting big labels for licensing deals and this week launched a new “visual” version of its player.
  • The Great Escape has today announced the first 100 acts confirmed for 2014, including a Dome show from Kelis (pictured). Now in its ninth year, the MAMA produced festival will showcase 400 emerging artists across three days and 35 venues in Brighton from 8th-10th May to an expected 18,000 fans an industry delegates.
