    BMG Making Waves

    In industry deals news, The Gen goes on a transatlantic trawl- this one isn’t going to run and run like the EMI sale but it’s a significant development Stateside. BMG is to partner up with Primary Wave Music in a venture that will see the two companies operate a joint artist services business in North America.
  • As vinyl enjoys a much-reported resurgence, the majors are jumping onboard with Universal music launching ‘The Vinyl Project’, a ‘vinyl on demand’ service that will be run through its U-Vinyl website, re-printing limited editions of records that have gone out of print.

    ACE: Not having a pop

    Chief Executive of Arts Council England (ACE) Alan Davey has written a blog clarifying comments that he made last week on Radio 4 in which he said that major labels in the UK were “not prepared to take a risk over a long period of time investing in talent".As reported in last week’s Gen, The BPI’s Geoff Taylor responded to Davey’s comments, saying that they were “ill informed and out of touch”.

    UK albums ascend in Q1

    UK album sales have risen for the first quarter in three years in the first three months of this year, climbing by 1.4%. The rise is attributed to albums from big pop hitters such as Emeli Sande, Jake Bugg and the cast of Les Miserables along with the recurring success of the Now That's What... franchise.
