  • Ticketmaster has this week weighed into the ongoing secondary ticketing debate, also kicking back at a recent Which? campaign that called on ticketing companies to justify their high fees. As reported, the consumer group’s campaign criticised major ticketing companies for so-called ‘hidden’ charges.

  • Generator are once again looking for the best emerging North East talent to play this year's Evolution Emerging - our takeover of the best venues in the Ouseburn Valley, Newcastle. Taking place on Saturday 24th May Evolution Emerging will see more than 30 emerging artists playing alongside special guest headliners and artists unearthed through our innovative Tipping Point blog. We're asking North East bands and solo artists (from any genre) to apply to play this year's event.
  • The Association of Independent Festivals (AIF), is staging a Marketing and Promotion seminar in London next month. A series of workshops and presentations will feature speakers from Bestival / Get Involved, YouTube, Kendal Calling, PRS for Music Foundation, Storm Crowd and Leefest at the event on February 18th at the Minster Exchange venue from 9.30am—5.30pm.
  • After announcing Thurston Moore and John Cale as guest speakers, the organisers of Liverpool Sound City 2014 have announced their first wave of acts including Jungle and Clean Bandit. Taking place from May 1st-3rd in 25 venues across the City, the 7th annual Sound City will also feature Kodaline, F**k Buttons and Gruff Rhys.

  • The BBC has announced that the first ever 6Music Festival will take place at The Victoria Warehouse in Manchester on Friday 28th February and Saturday 1st March. The line-up consists of more than 30 artists and DJs across three stages includingThe National, Damon Albarn, Jake Bugg, Haim, James Blake and Bombay Bicycle Club.

  • It may not be able to boast its own Kanye / Swift Taylor moment but the 2014 Grammys did feature 33 same-sex and hetrosexual couples getting married onstage to the strains of Madonna, Macklemore and Lewis. The awards ceremony also featured a total of five prizes for Daft Punk, including album and record of the year for the suave suited silver helmeted duo. It must be difficult to maintain mystique when you’re blaring out of every possible orifice of the country all summer long.
  • According to a report launched this week, venues and festivals across the UK are losing out on £66m in annual revenues by not offering online booking to disabled customers. The latest ‘State of Access Report’ published by Attitude is Everything reveals that 83% of mystery shoppers were discouraged from buying tickets by current booking systems.
  • So, Independent Venue Week is underway and what better reason is there to head out and support your local Colin Greenwood stamped and approved authentic toilet venue? Of course, like buying records and Record Store Day, you should be doing this year round if paying for music and supporting emerging artists and small venues are important to you.
  • Following a reported $60 million investment, SoundCloud is apparently courting big labels for licensing deals and this week launched a new “visual” version of its player.

  • The Great Escape has today announced the first 100 acts confirmed for 2014, including a Dome show from Kelis (pictured). Now in its ninth year, the MAMA produced festival will showcase 400 emerging artists across three days and 35 venues in Brighton from 8th-10th May to an expected 18,000 fans an industry delegates.
